The departures of Greg Smith from Goldman Sachs and Richard Brasher from Tesco both occurred in the same week. Smith's departure letter accusing Goldman Sachs of being unethical had a touch of sour grapes about it. Brasher's departure is more interesting as it suggests problems at the top of Tesco with disagreements over the company's strategic direction.

AWARE has used this tool periodically over the years. The latest use has again found examples of companies that think it's OK to plagiarise and steal work from other websites.

There is an approach to analysing weak competitive intelligence signals that can help sort the wheat from the chaff. When you have a collection of weak signals don't treat them all the same but categorise them, and then examine the source and why the information became available. 4-corners analysis and hypothesis testing can then be used to make decisions based on weak signals.

2012 is the Chinese year of the water dragon. One guide on what to expect for this year states that water dragons are equipped to step back and re-evaluate situations.
